ENTERTAINER Vybz Kartel was this morning freed of ganja charges in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
ENTERTAINER Vybz Kartel was this morning freed of ganja charges in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court.
The prosecution offered no evidence in the case.
Magistrate Maxine Ellis stopped just short of calling the prosecution of the case against the artiste malicious in light of the fact that someone else had previously pleaded guilty to possession of the .06 ounce of weed that was fou...nd last September in a hotel room in New Kingston occupied by several persons, including Kartel.
At the time, Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer, was arrested on suspicion of murder and later charged.
“What is the useful purpose of continuing after someone else claimed ownership of the spliff?” Ellis commented yesterday, before ordering that the artiste appear today when the case would be resolved.
“How many people can own this little spliff?”
Last October, Alicia Jackson was fined $500 or 30 days for the ganja. She paid the fine and was released.
Kartel is also facing two separate charges of murder in the Home Circuit Court.

Gaza Slim calls out Popcaan, insists he lied in statement

Gaza Slim calls out Popcaan, insists he lied in statement
It’s a literal case of he said-she said as the fallout from the recent disbanding of the Portmore Empire continues with one former member Gaza Slim calling out another in Popcaan following a statement released to the public on Monday.
The Only Man She Want deejay issued a detailed press release addressing several pressing issues, from his relationship with former mentor, Vybz Kartel to the reasoning behind him not being a member of PG13, a new label spearheaded by Kartel which features Tommy Lee and the aforementioned Gaza Slim. In said release, Popcaan insisted that he was not able to visit the self-professed ‘Worl’ Boss’ given that he was advised against making visitations to the jail where Kartel had been held at and that ‘Di Teacha’ himself suggested through letter that he should stay away from the police. Additionally, Popcaan insisted that he remains grateful to Vybz Kartel for providing him with several musical opportunities and that he’s forever loyal to the ‘Gaza.’A day after Popcaan broke his silence, Gaza Slim, whose also known as Vanessa Bling issued a statement of her own, steadfastly refuting the When We Party deejay’s account of these events while revealing the apparent discord that existed between Popcaan and Vybz Kartel after the latter’s arrest last September.
In the statement, Gaza Slim says, “Everyone is releasing statements Re: Portmore Empire, some more truthful than others so I think it’s time to release mine. In a statement released by Popcaan (which I doubt was written by him considering how grammatically correct it was) is nothing but lies in an attempt at keeping the support of Gaza fans, and by Gaza, I mean Kartel because he is Gaza.”
“Firstly, before his arrest, Kartel did bookings for Popcaan, which was handled by Calvin Haye and Andre Henry, not by the World Boss himself, as we all know he staffs to do these things. As Kartel was arrested, Popi immediately diverted his bookings way from Moonie and Pim Pim who were not arrested as yet, to other people, although the boss had invested time and money for which he has not been recompensed. Secondly, when the boss was arrested he was held at a small jail where anyone could have visited. I know because I did. Popi didn’t visit because a certain producer told him to “stay far from Kartel, him nah see back road.” Thirdly, in his statement, Popcaan said that he and Kartel spoke through letters. I see the Boss in court regularly so I know that’s a lie. The only thing Teacha say when I ask if Popi link him is ‘Me nuh wah see him. Yuh nuh see how him a move. Me wish him the best.’”
Following her explanation, the emerging singjay had a pair of messages for her former Portmore Empire group mate.
“I just want to say to Popcaan:
1. Stop the lies. You and I know that World Boss nuh want nothing from you cause dem man deh full a pride, an him pay all a we lawyer fee.
2. The reverse psychology that you’re using to try look decent, a Kartel teach you that. So don’t try use it on his fans, because I was there when the white man asked you if you were going to visit Kartel and you said ‘Why me haffi go?’”
“Lastly, stop send out statement bout ‘bare badness backa dat.” Maybe a people you a try impress but, sigh, me haffi laugh. That’s all I am going to say. This is my only statement on the Portmore Empire.”

‘I Will Never Tell An Artiste About His Mother On Record’ Says Khago 2012
12:23 PM
No comments
Emerging dancehall star Khago now embroiled in a lyrical feud with Rastafarian entertainer Sizzla Kalonji has said that he will not descend to Sizzla’s level and resort to disrespecting anyone’s parents on record.
These comments come in the wake of a recent single released days ago by Sizzla entitled ‘Khago Go S*ck Yu Mumma’. Where Kalonji launches an all out tirade against the ‘Nah Sell Out Mi Fren Dem’ singer.
Responding to the release of the song Khago said, “Sizzla
lose it. This just shows how desperate he is fi mek him have to resort
to telling someone about his mother. I respect my parents, my father
died when I was a child, and today is Father’s Day so mi a honour my
parents. Mi inna music , but mi no inna almshouse.”
He continued, “Sizzla
just show say him no have no moral authority fi tell anybody about dem
life. How can an artiste who sing ‘Thank You Mama’, a classic song like
that a couple years ago, come today and tell another artiste ‘Go Suck Yu
Mumma’, Sizzla just upset say mi write him off, the whole world know
say him caan stand up to mi lyrically, mi win the first two round of the
battle and mi a go win the war,” a confident Khago explained.
Khago is expected the depart the
island soon for stints in England and Canada and is confirmed for this
year’s Reggae Sumfest in Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.

Popcaan Releases Statement Addressing Not Visiting Vybz Kartel, PG 13, And Receiving Death Threats + more
This statement is addressed to all media and my
fans. Because of facts mixed with persistent rumors I feel that I need
to set the record straight. I will not be making any further statements
or conducting any interviews on these subjects.
Portmore Empire
The world already knows that my career was launched from the greatest dancehall school and business entity, The Portmore Empire/ Adidjaheim Records led by Vybz Kartel. Since Vybz Kartel’s incarceration in September 2011 I remained a loyal and contributing member of this unit until May 2012 when the Portmore Empire was dissolved.
Rumors started as early as September 2011 that I had left the Portmore Empire, this was not so. My actions in October 2011 were to seek booking representation as this very important function was no longer viable for me with the incarceration of the head of my management and booking company. To date I have no formal management or booking agreement and only since June 2012, with the dissolution of the Portmore Empire have I engaged the services of a lawyer to put these agreements in place.
From September 2011 to present I have worked hard and stayed focused on my career with my main intention to make sure that the music from the Portmore Empire was being released and the brand remained in the forefront of the dancehall music industry. I feel that I did that to the best of my ability with the release of songs like Party Shot, Fry Yiy, Coolie Gal, Bad Mind, She A Gwaan Good, Nuh Sell Out and Step Like Dead and with performances all over the world.
Visiting Vybz Kartel:
Since his incarceration I have not visited Vybz Kartel, nor have any members of the Portmore Empire visited him to date. In September 2011 it was explained to us that only family members were allowed to visit at set times once a week. On several occasions when I enquired about visitations I was told that this was not advised. Later Vybz Kartel communicated through letters that I should focus on my career and stay away from the police. All our communication has been focused on updates on my career, my song releases and stage shows and general discussions as one would express in the present situation. Up until May 2012 when the Portmore Empire was dissolved we maintained a business relationship.
I am grateful and am loyal to Vybz Kartel for the opportunity of working with the Portmore Empire, for everything I learned from him about the music business, life, friendship and family. He is a brother, a father figure, “mi real chargie”. He has influenced and will continue to influence my career as one of my favourite artists and from the day we met at the Chromatic party ‘My Scheme’ in Portmore in 2009 to collaborating on hits like Clarks, Hot Grabba, Never Fear Dem and other songs.
I look forward to working again with Vybz Kartel and will be checking with producers to see what previously recorded material they may have that I can include on my album which I will start working on soon.
Informer by Vybz Kartel featuring Tommy Lee
The song Informer was recorded by Vybz Kartel in August 2011 and added to by Tommy Lee in May 2012.
These lyrics in no way pertain to me. To create friction and controversy, some persons have tried to dissect the song line by line but the fact remains that this song was not recorded about or toward me. Every word sang by Tommy Lee in this song could have been sung by me but this is the time for Tommy Lee to get the exposure and recognition from a collaboration with Vybz Kartel.
PG13
Vybz Kartel has explained that with no negative intentions and with his blessing and the possibilities of working together in the future, he thinks I have shown where I can work with my own career and that he will form a unit named PG13 for upcoming artists and include two former Portmore Empire members.
I am not a member of PG13.
Elvis ‘Sounique’ Redwood
Elvis Redwood has made it public that he is one of the producers working with PG 13 and he also keeps making defamatory statements about me. I know these are related to his disappointment because I did not voice on his ‘Aurora Skies’ riddim and it did not pass Half Way Tree. Because of his reaction to this and the way he constantly refers negatively to me throughout the music industry and the media my statement here is that I will never voice on any riddim he produces.
My main producers remain TJ Records, UIM Records, Young Vibez, ZJ Chrome, Not Nice Records and MixPak Records. I also record any riddims that I like by other producers.
GAZA
I am Gaza for Life.
I have never said and will never say I am not a part of Gaza. Gaza is my original home and foundation and I will always remain loyal to the Gaza.
As I move forward and progress in the music industry I will use my success to bring forward other artistes like Vybz Kartel did for me and like Bounty Killer did for him.
Unscrupulous persons have called me and my family members with threats on my life, my family’s lives and threats to bottle my performances. I will not focus on this as I remain committed to my music, my career and my fans. Thanks to everyone for all the messages of support and encouragement that keep coming to me from fans in the streets, the media, the music industry and all the social networks.
I can only be myself and bring my own energy and vibes to the music industry, I remain the same fry yiy, hotskull, peppa skull, boil brain, popskull from 3West Portmore dat Vybz Kartel buss to di world. Zj Liquid Nabs International award 2012
Popular radio personality ZJ Liquid
copped the coveted International Dancehall Selector of the Year at the
fourth annual South Florida Reggae and Dancehall Awards in the United
States recently.
The popular selector, whose real name is Michael Brissett, received the award after performing a number of his songs at the awards show such as the international dancehall number one hit, Wifey Walk Out on the One Day riddim. ZIP FM also won the award for Best Radio Station.
Recently, Liquid has been ratcheting up his international presence with gigs all over the world. He, along with reggae artiste Protoje, recently returned from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates where Liquid played music on the major urban station, Radio 1.
“I am the first disc jockey from here to go over there and spin on that station, it was a great privilege and a wonderful experience,” he said.

While in Dubai, ZJ Liquid was able to sample
the unique cuisine, and bustling night-life of the cosmopolitan city.
“We did the whole
tourist thing in Dubai, we visited mosques and saw the sights, Dubai is a
beautiful city,” ZJ Liquid, who has amassed an impressive 30,000 followers
on Twitter, said.
Plaudits and applause and Twitter fawning
aside, Liquid is really proud of being able to maintain the love and support
of his fan base in Jamaica. In April, he was reinstated at ZIP FM in his regular
time slot after a four month suspension from live radio. He thanked his legion
of fans for sticking with him through his various problems.
“The fans can get
frustrated and drift from you especially with all the drama and disappointments
I have been through recently, but they stuck with me, and for that I am
eternally grateful,” he said.
He also thanked Team Liquid, Zip 103 FM and the
Broadcasting Commission for giving him another opportunity to showcase his
talent.
The selector-turned-artiste has a new single called ‘Who ah Di Fada’ on the Wet Up riddim which has been enjoying favourable rotation on the FM radio.

MAVADO'S GULLYSIGE GROUP SHRINKS
7:10 PM
No comments
CURTIS CAMPBELL, STAR Writer
Like the once powerful Gaza Camp, Mavado's Gullyside appears to be shrinking with the exit of another member, Savage, who was featured on the Christmas collaboration with Mavado called Gully Christmas.
According to Savage, the Flexx-led Fagan Fraternity and the Alliance are his only group affiliations.
Fagan Fraternity recently released a rhythm called the Dark Storm, which is an intended diss to Mavado's Gully Side, on which Savage recorded a song called Kill Bwoy Fi Nothing aimed at Mavado and Chase Cross.
"Deh song deh guh straight into the brain of the Gully, a Flexx mek mi know Mavado and from mi and Mavado duh Gully Christmas him shadow mi career," Savage said.
According to Savage, the current feud could have been avoided, however Mavado was not willing to fix the situation.
"Mi link him (Mavado) and ask him if the war with Flexx can squash and Mavado sey no, suh mi work out the maths and mi decide sey mi a defend Flexx. Mi hear sey dem a chat up a bag a things but dem fraid a wi like puss because dem nuh have nuh lyrics, dem a hide inna bush," Savage said.
According to Savage, popular Gullyside/ Alliance selector Boom Boom has also sided with Mavado and has refused to play his songs since the feud.
"We all come from Grants Pen and the place a sey Kibaki, Savage, Mavado, Boom Boom and Flexx, but all Boom Boom a tek side and nah play Savage and a Flexx mek all dem youth deh start par with Mavado," Savage said.
Savage also claimed that he wrote Mavado's single House Cleaning and Mavado left him off the rhythm.
"I was recording the song for myself and Mavado like it and I gave it to him and he ended up recording the song and I wasn't allowed to record on the rhythm. Suh him nah duh nothing fi wi. Tommy Lee par with Kartel less dan a year and him a big artiste already," Savage continued.
"Dem sey 2012 the world a guh end but a Gullyside world a guh end this year. How dem fi diss Bounty Killer and a Killer buss dem. Because Flexx big up Bounty Killer dem waah vex. Chase Cross cyaah rap fi save him life much less fi sing; everybody know sey him nuh good and a him cause all of this trouble," Savage said.
Flexx also commented on the issue. According to him, Savage was taken to Mavado by him therefore its natural that he would side with him (Flexx).
"We are just doing music now, music is big and music nuh have nuh bodyguard. Fagan Fraternity will soon have its own website in a matter of weeks and we are producing new rhythms to be released," Flexx said.
Savage is currently signed to Snow Cone's Victory Syndicate Records and is gearing up to make an appearance in Bermuda. He is also doing recordings for Sounique Records.
All attempts to get a comment from a representative of the Gullyside were unsuccessful.

The deejay, who is known for songs like Party Shot and Ravin, will be thrilling fans in Portugal, France, Sweden, and Switzerland, just to name a few. This will mark his third European tour, having previously travelled with the Portmore Empire. This tour, however, is the artiste’s first in Europe as a solo act and headline artiste.
The deejay said, “My European fans can expect a great show with all the Popcaan songs they know and love. We are rehearsing a set that includes songs from Jah JahProtect Me to Dream, to all di current hits. It’s going to be good energy and good fry yiy vibes. So far, the feedback from Europe has been good. So I’m looking forward to having a good time and meeting new fans.”
Special performance
On his return from Europe, the deejay will be busy performing at the St Kitts Music Festival, a special performance at Smudge on July 1, Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, and Dream Weekend in Negril. He has also been busy in studio with new summer anthems such as When Mi Party (TJ Records), Coolie Gal (UIM), Bad Mind (007 Records), and The System (Dre Skull).

BREAKING NEWS :Confessed Jamaican gangster Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
BREAKING NEWS :Confessed Jamaican gangster Christopher ‘Dudus’ Coke has been sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down a short while ago in the Southern District Court in Lower Manhattan in the United States.
The 43-year-old was facing a maximum sentence of 23 years.
...
The sentencing of Coke this morning by United States district judge Robert P. Patterson in a New York court, brings to end a chapter in the history of Jamaica, which intrigued and engulfed the entire island state.
Coke's fall from the undisputed don of the Jamaican underworld to a US felon started in September 2009, with an extradition request from the United States for the man, who was a patron saint to the residents of Tivoli Gardens, a menace to law enforcement officials and a powerful figure to local politicians.
The extradition request led to a protracted dispute between the governments of Jamaica and the US.
The dispute lasted for almost a year and ended with then Prime Minister Bruce Golding acceding to the US request and sending both the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force into Tivoli Gardens to arrest Coke in May 2010.
The ensuing standoff between the armed forces and gunmen resulted in the death of at least 73 persons, one soldier and many unanswered questions.
Coke was not captured in the offensive, but he was held about a month later, allegedly disguised with a woman's wig, in the company of clergyman Al Miller.
He waived his right to fight his extradition to the US and has been awaiting trial and sentencing since.

Beenie Man get back U.S. work permit 2012
Beenie Man will perform in New York later this summer at an upcoming stage show in New York |
Internationally
acclaimed Dancehall superstar, Beenie Man will finally return to a U.S.
stage after his work permit to the North American country has been
officially reinstated.
Despite
being issued a United States visa last summer, Beenie Man has yet to
perform at an event in the country since his work permit was revoked by
the Embassy of the United States in Kingston over two years ago. As a
result, the self-professed King of the Dancehall was unable to perform
on BET’s 106 and Park alongside Trinidadian-American hip-hop megastar,
Nicki Minaj as originally scheduled this past April.
However,
Beenie Man will now be able to perform at the first ever Groovin’ In The
Park concert on July 1 at Roy Wilkins Park in the New York based
borough of Queens. CEO of Groovin Inc. Christopher Roberts announced
that Beenie Man will be a headliner at his company’s upcoming event
while expressing glee regarding the prominent deejay’s retrieval of his
American work permit.
"I am
extremely excited to announce that our booking agent here in New York
was able to secure a work permit for the Dancehall king, Beenie Man to
be a headline performer at this year’s 'Groovin In the Park' concert on
July 1," Roberts said in a statement.
"Music
fans in the tri-state area have been waiting for a very long time for
the opportunity to see Beenie Man perform live here in the USA again. I
am glad we were instrumental in making it happen for the fans. Beenie
Man is an extremely talented entertainer and we are happy that he will
be again able to showcase his talents on stage in New York.”
Groovin’
In The Park will also feature Reggae legends, Beres Hammond and Jimmy
Cliff as the show honors three nations celebrating milestone
independence anniversaries this year: United States (236) as well as
Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago who will both be celebrating golden
anniversaries this year (50).
